The 1st step in setting up a training program in family planning is to know which types of personnel are required, and basing the objectives of the training on this. The duration and content will vary depending on the objectives. As to methodology, active participation, visual aids, provision of sufficient practical work, and field study are important. To assess the trainers, it is useful to administer a questionnaire at the beginning and end of the course to find out how much knowledge has been gained. Various methods of following up of the trainees are suggested. The training faculty should be composed of members from various disciplines, and remunerations should be sufficiently high to discourage rapid turnover. A description of necessary equipment and suitable locale for a training center is given, as well as budget and administration recommendations.
