The risk factors, recognition and management of systemic reactions triggered by Hymenoptera and spider venom are reviewed. Appropriate and safe use of insect repellents in children are also discussed. Finally, the diagnosis and management of 2 common paediatric infestations caused by Sarcoptes scabiei and Pediculus humanus are addressed.
