The A. studies the cholera in Spain from historical point of view. He gives special consideration to 4th pandemic spread in Madrid and Barcelona in 1884. The scientific attitude of Pettenkofer and Liehig gave way to Pasteur, Fernin and Koch's new standpoints, whose attitude reflects on spanish public health measures. The A. illustrates false theories accepted long time' after Koch's findings. The A. considers that cholera threat was important as a stimulus for the improvement of sanitary systems in order to evitate a 5th pandemic.
