Myocardial infarction is a common life threatening medical emergency. The mortality remains around 10% and can be influenced by early reperfusion achieved either by thrombolysis or angioplasty. To outline the relative suitability and safety of thrombolysis as a treatment option for myocardial infarction. Initial assessment and treatment are vitally important in improving outcome. Later risk factor modification remains an important factor in reducing future cardiac events.
