None of the oestrogen-progestin mixtures Enovid, Ovulen and Lutestral (at 8 mg/kg diet) or their gestagens, despite their oestrogen content, accelerated or raised the frequency of mammary carcinogenesis in C3H, R111 and (C3H X R111)F, intact female mice. Norethynodrel (at 13.5 mg/kg diet) and chlormadinone acetate (at 8 mg/kg diet) delayed appearance of tumours. Effects upon mammary glands of male mice are also described.
