In this issue, two reports discuss chemical processes involving liquid water within asteroids or their planetesimal precursors. A. J. Brearly presents transmission electron microscope evidence for the production of iron-rich olivine at low temperatures and argues that these findings support a previous proposal that this ubiquitous phase was created by a hydration-dehydration sequence. Presenting direct evidence for meteoritic water, M. E. Zolensky and colleagues report on tiny inclusions of brine within large crystals of halite inside a meteorite.
