The examinations were performed upon 22 pregnant primiparous patients, in the course of exercises in the maternity school, 4-8 weeks preceding the onset of labor. The test types of gymnastic exercises were chosen and adapted to the available examination equipment. The duration of exercises sets was calculated at about 10 minutes. The caloric expense was calculated in the course of exercise performance using indirect calorimetry (Micheilis respirometer) with concomitant recording of lung ventilation. The energetic expense of standard physical stress, taking place, during the performance of exercises was 2.678 Kcal/min. which corresponds to expenditure, necessary in the course of routine household functions or quick walking. The examined physical stress caused slight and rapidly restituted alteration of the circulatory parameters (increase of the pulse rate 16.3% increase of the systolic pressure 7.5%).
