Adopting a new technique is a decision often made based on limited information and is a serious undertaking with potentially profound implications. Each surgeon has a professional and ethical obligation to scrutinize a new technology personally before embracing it. This article reviews certain factors that every surgeon should consider before adopting a new technique and specifically, provides basic information on starting ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty. The author takes into account the learning curve in acquiring new skills as well as certain economic factors.
