Possible human ehrlichiosis in the Free State

The case of a 63-year-old man with clinical symptoms of ehrlichiosis was seen in Bloemfontein, South Africa, following contact with domestic dogs. By indirect fluorescent testing, IgM antibodies to Ehrlichia chaffeensis were demonstrated in the serum of the patient. A probable case of human ehrlichiosis was diagnosed.
