BC-105 in the prevention of migraine

In accordance with the recent investigations, serotonin has an important role in the pathogenesis of migraine crisis and thus led to examinations and introduction of new prophylactic remedies with specific antiserotoninic properties in the therapy od migraine. Both Methysergide and BC - 105 proved to be the most effective, especially in the prophylaxis of migraine. A total of 24 patients were included in the examination of the effect of BC - 105 during 1970 on our Department of Neurology, Medical School of Rijeka. Seventeen patients suffered from classical migraine and seven from other vascular headaches. A single blind technique was used and the patients were given a course of 6 months. Nineteen patients had finished the study. In nine patients the effect was very good (47, 34%) with complete reduction of attacks; in seven (36, 82%) good; in three (15, 78%) there was no effects at all. Side effects of tremendous appetite and putting on weight apparent in 50% of our patients and that may be favorable, besides the prophylaxis of migraine, in the therapy of anorexis.
