Investigations in Australia into fruit fly sterilization in citrus have shown that low temperature treatment for 14 days at 31 degrees F. is effective and practicable, but difficult in view of cool store accommodation and costs. Fumigation experiments with ethylene dibromide have shown that at 70 degrees F. a residue of not less than 2 p.p.m. EDB in the juice extracted 30 min. after fumigation ensures complete destruction of the larvae. A dosage of 10 oz.
