Drug dependence among secondary school students at Bogotá, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga (Colombia) . Survey of the prevalence of drug use

After a detailed census of secondary students in Sept. 1974, the student population was divided into 9 strata on the basis of school level criteria and on the basis of the type of school: girls' school, boys' school or co-educational. Surveys indicated tha dependence producing psychoactive substances were being used among the student population and that the use of these drugs was based primarily on curiosity followed by relief from anxiety and finally the desire to overcome shyness.
