The author outlines the views of the early geneticists and of the Mendelian school, referring particularly to the great interest taken in the gene centres and the varieties obtained from these centres. This is thought to account for the neglect of the local strains on the part of so many breeders, to the grave detriment of Soviet plant breeding.
