A letter responds to Hutson et al.'s paper in the May (pt. 1) 1997 issue on the amino acid control of asparagine synthetase and asparaginase resistance in human leukemia cells. The letter states that the in vivo significance of in vitro cytotoxicity assays involving asparaginase should be interpreted with caution, particularly if the assays are intended to contribute to therapy decisions. A reply is published.
