Lysis of hepatic reticulin: an unusual lesion in laying fowls possibly associated with rapeseed meal

An unusual lesion is reported in the livers of laying fowls dying from hepatic haemorrhage. In every liver there was a defect of the reticulum associated with the larger vessels and ducts. The lesion was only found in birds fed rapeseed meal. The author concludes that birds so fed are subjected to a toxin which caused selective ante-mortem lysis of the hepatic reticular substance.
