n-Tetracosanoic (Lignoceric) acid has been isolated and characterized as the bye-product in griseofulvin fermentation by P. nigricans. Other fungi are known to produce this fatty acid but not P. nigricans. Experiments have been carried out to determine the rate of formation of the fatty acid, which shows marginal antibacterial activity.
