Correction of malaligned teeth in the dog has been achieved by a variety of techniques, including use of an inclined plane.1-5 We describe and illustrate the technique because of its simplicity, the short time required for treatment, and the excellent toleration of the inclined plane by the patient. During the first eight hours after the device was installed, some hypersalivation was noted by the owner, but this effect proved to be only temporary. When the dog was examined 10 days after surgery, the malaligned tooth had moved buccally into a more normal position and the device was removed. Two weeks later the tooth had drifted into contact with the buccal tissue. In addition, the tooth had erupted upward, which prevented recurrence of any movement toward the tongue. Use of the inclined plane in an orthodontic device resulted in a cosmetically normal mouth in this dog.
