Two complementary dominant genes, W1 and W2, were found to control F1 weakness, expressed as disturbance of tissue differentiation in the adventitious roots. Many O. breviligulata strains had W1, while most of the O. glaberrima strains had W2, or were free of both. Modifier genes affecting the expression of the weakness genes also seemed to be present.
