Migration inhibition testing on peripheral leukocytes from liver fluke infected rabbits

Leucocytes were harvested from serum samples from rabbits experimentally infected with Fasciola hepatica and subjected to the migration inhibition test using as antigens extracts of sonicated adults or eggs of F. hepatica from cattle which contained 2 mg/ml and one mg/ml of dry matter, respectively. 2 dose levels were used, 3 and 5 drops/ml. A significant inhibition of migration was observed only with the 5-drop dose of egg antigen. In a subsequent experiment all the rabbits developed reactivity to the 2 dose levels of both antigens; 3 did not exhibit migration inhibition until 105 days after inoculation, whereas the 4th showed it from day 42 onwards.
