The serious and complex problem of surgical injury to bile ducts is disconcerting because of the tendency of stricture formation after both primary and secondary reconstruction, with frequently lethal sequelae. Stricture prevention using circular teflon splints with specific characteristics placed outside the bile duct as a ring was studied. When anastomosis was performed, the section borders were attached to the inner surface of the prosthesis. Once the borders of the duct were fixed to the splint with surgical knots on the outer surface, the internal diameter of the bile duct increased. Sections were performed on the middle 3rd of the common bile ducts of 10 adult dogs and the continuity of the duct was then reestablished with the technique described. In the postoperative period fistulization did not occur, nor were there signs of obstruction. Cholangiographic control studies were conducted 3 mo. later. In every case, normal caliber of the common bile duct, good passage of the contrast medium into the intestine and absence of fistulae were observed.
