The use of Duopect as expectorant--antitussive agent

A double-blind crossover study on the effect of narcotine, glycerol guaiacolate and Duopect (narcotine glycerol guaiacolate) on the severity and frequency of cough, as well as on tenaciousness of sputum in 41 patients with chronic bronchitiscluberculosis, bronchiectasis and chronic bronchitis with asthma showed Duopect to be the most effective drug. In 87,5% of patients decrease of coughing was marked or moderate, and in 75% expectoration was easier. Pulse and blood pressure showed no changes. Side effects were mild and transient.
