This article reviews the morbidity and mortality associated with obesity, its aetiology and various methods of weight loss. The pharmacologic treatments reviewed include: noradrenergic agents; serotonergic agents, such as fenfluramine, dexfenfluramine and fluoxetine; and investigational agents.
