Preoperative, psychoanalytically oriented evaluation can reveal hidden needs behind the request for esthetic breast surgery. When this become evident for the patient, the surgical project is modified considerably by the evaluation, or afterwards by way of psychotherapy. Sometimes the desire of surgery is replaced by psychotherapy and the projet of mammaplasty is abandonned.
