Six researchers at the University of California, San Diego, Medical Center became ill after drinking coffee at a lab meeting. Their drinks were laced with acrylamide, a neurotoxic chemical used in molecular biology labs, and the quantity of chemical in the coffee seemed to be too high to be accidental. Campus police have now begun a criminal investigation into the matter.
