An account is given of the neuropathological changes found in 40 dogs suffering from fits. These were idiopathic epilepsy (12 cases), cerebral neoplasia (9), encephalitis (7), laminar necrosis of the cerebral cortex (3), malacia of the inferior colliculus (1), cerebral abscess (1), toxicity (1), congenital hydrocephalus (1), spinal fracture (1), stroke (1), insuloma (1), cortical cyst (1), and labyrinthitis (1). Evidence is given to show that apart from terminal haemorrhage, convulsions do not in themselves result in observable brain damage in the adult dog. Other features discussed are hereditary aspects of epilepsy, various neuropathological reactions to distemper, cerebrovascular accidents and hypoglycaemia.
