Six adult female rats were given a diet containing 30 mg ethionine/day for 3 weeks. Controls were kept on the same diet without ethionine. On the 21st day of the experiment all rats were given methyl mercury labelled with 203Hg by stomach tube: each rat was given 163 mu g metallic Hg. The rats were killed 90 h later and the Hg contents of the brain, liver, caudal femoral muscles, erythrocytes and blood plasma were estimated. The mean plasma Hg was significantly greater in the rats given ethionine than in the controls.
