In 8 Kenyan African men and 45 women 18 to 55 years old with non-toxic goitre values for plasma inorganic I were from 0.011 to 0.28, mean 0.1 mu g/100 ml; 13 had more than 0.15 mu g. In 15 patients with no thyroid enlargement values were from 0.05 to 0.51, mean 0.21 mu g/100 ml; 3 had less than 0.08 mu g. The difference between the groups was significant.
