The diurnal rhythm of activity of Aedes hexodontus Dyar, an abundant species, was studied in 1969-1970 in the tundra of the Dudinka district of the Krasnoyarsk region. During the polar day no definite diurnal rhythm of activity was found. Mosquitos were active at all times, and only an increase of illumination above 40,000 lux, or of wind speed to more than 6 m/sec, or a drop in air temperature to below 5 deg C reduced activity. The change from polar day into nocturnal twilight induced a definite diurnal rhythm of activity as found in crepuscular insects. Mosquitos attacked readily at air temperatures between 4 deg and 27.5 deg C.
