Biological risk of female-to-female HIV transmission is possible but thought to be unlikely. The risks to women who have sex with women may be higher than expected, however, because of other risky behaviors common to the group: unprotected sex with men, injection drug use, and artificial insemination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a two-page fact sheet which included prevention recommendations. In a recent study, 22 percent of HIV-positive women reported a history of female sexual contact, and barrier methods of prevention were low.
