Preparation of this bibliography was stimulated by the widespread interest in rural development in Tanzania and by the absence of an accessible compilation of references on the topic. It is intended to cover the broadest concept of rural development as comprehensively as possible. Rural development is understood to mean both the increased productivity of agricultural and other rural activities and the progressive enhancement of the material well-being of rural people as a result of education, improved health, better nutrition, and all that is required for their attainment.
