Chronic chagasic cardiopathy with parasitemic state (preliminary report)

Seven Mexican patients with diagnosis of dilated myocardiopathy, who fulfilled epidemiological, clinical and serological criteria for chronic Chagas' disease, were submitted to haemoculture. Parasites were isolated in 2 of the patients, confirming diagnosis. Antibody titres did not show any relationship with the presence or absence of parasitaemia, nor were clinical differences noticed. All the Trypanosoma cruzi parasites isolated were typed as biodeme III, on the basis of morphological and parasitological criteria.
