Phosphacol doses of 0.5, 5.0, and 50.0 LD-50 were administered to rats under nembutal anesthesia and artificial lung ventilation. The ventilation alone resulted in blood changes typical for hyperventilation-induced alkalosis. The development of dose-dependent tissue acidosis was observed. At the late stage of the poisoning (2 hours), the administration of large doses of phosphacol resulted in the development of decompensated acidosis causing death in some animals. Electron microscopy demonstrated that erythrocyte deformation described earlier coincided in time with changes in the concentration of cytoskeleton and depended on phosphacol doses and did not depend on blood pH.
