The therapeutic administration at first of flunarizine and more recently of verapamil in migraine patients has been suggested in view of the role played by ischemia and hypoxia in the genesis of the syndrome. To verify the effects of flunarizine (calcium modulator) versus verapamil (calcium antagonist) in preventing migraine attacks, two groups of randomly selected migraine patients were included in an open study. Both drugs were found to be useful in preventing migraine, however flunarizine, at the doses employed seems to be more effective.
