A conference was held to focus on the work of population correspondents in the Asian and Pacific (ESCAP) region. It was stressed that a good population information network has many advantages to population programs: 1) stimulating innovation in programming; 2) facilitating comparative analysis among programs; 3) providing a research for policy formulation; 4) repackaging the information for specific groups; and 5) condensing the information for the mass audience. Population communication bridges the gap between information producers and information users. National population information clearinghouses are also important in the process. For India, a suggestion was made that regional information centers be established. A documentation center was proposed for Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was recommended that research findings be conveyed in nontechnical language.
