The net protein utilization of diets containing gluten, chickpea, casein and egg was estimated with rats. The calculated amount of utilizable protein (NDpJ %) agreed well with the estimated values except for gluten where there was an overestimate. The amino acid compositions of the carcasses after the test were similar in all groups including the nonprotein control. In a zero-day control group there was less glycine and proline.
