61 sterilized women were asked to respond to questions regarding previous gynecological history, changes in libido since sterilization, and their satisfaction with the operation. A control group similar in age, marital status, and parity were asked about their gynecological history and changes in libido since their last pregnancy. The results were similar with 25 of the sterilized women and 13 of the controls reported heavier periods and 5 sterilized women and 6 controls required dilation and curettage. Hysterectomy was performed on 3 sterilized women and 4 controls primarily for menorrhagia. 16 sterilized expressed regret since they occasionally wanted another baby. The majority of sterilized women and controls indicated either no change or an increase in libido probably due to the removal of fear of pregnancy.
