A further case of medroxyprogesterone acetate associated with calcinosis circumscripta in the dog

A 6-year-old Fox Terrier-cross bitch presented with a 2-month-old, 3 cm diameter, circular area of well-delimited alopecia on the left side. A subcutaneous contraceptive injection of medroxyprogesterone acetate had been administered at the site 7 months previously. Calcinosis circumscripta was diagnosed and the whole deposit surgically excised. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis. Cases of calcinosis circumscripta following medroxyprogesterone acetate have been described previously in Poodles; this is the first report of a case in a crossbred bitch.
