Nine rats were maintained from weaning on stock semisynthetic diet as controls; 27 had a high-Ca, low-P rachitogenic diet for 25 days and a diet low in Ca, P and vitamin D for 3 days and on the 27th day 12 of them were given 30 IU cholecalciferol. On the 28th day all were killed and fragments of proximal metaphysis of tibia and distal metaphysis of femur were incubated for 4 h aerobically in presence of Ca, inorganic P, glucose, ascorbic acid, antibiotics and rachitic rat serum.
