Estimation of vitamin B-12 binding capacity and gel filtration of human pancreatic juice (HPJ) and rat pancreatic juice (RPJ) indicated the presence of a vitamin B-12 binder different from gastric intrinsic factor (IF) and also the presence of the pancreatic vitamin B-12 binder in human duodenal juice. The binder in RPJ did not have a significant effect on the uptake of [57Co]cyanocobalamin either free or bound to rat IF by perfused rat intestinal segments. The binder in HPJ did not affect uptake of [57Co]cyanocobalamin free or bound to human IF by guineapig intestinal brush borders. The results indicate that the pancreatic vitamin B-12 binder does not influence the intestinal uptake of vitamin.
