Starting from the fact that the disparity between the rich and poor countries is getting worse, not better, the need for massive help by the privileged minority is urged. It is very important to look at the quality of the aid programme, and not just at its quantity. The main points in the Pearson and Jackson reports are outlined and discussed and the present and possible future roles of the UN and World Bank are outlined.
