A study was undertaken to determine the effectiveness, safety and acceptability of conjugated estrogen (Premarin) as a post-ovulatory interceptive . One pregnancy resulted from 359 completed treatment cycles.sbd.a failure rate of 0.3%. The most common side effects were nausea (52.3%) and breast tenderness (37%). The character and bleeding pattern of the menstrual cycle were unaffected in 69.3% of the women. Since the side effects that did occur were usually mild in nature, a 5 day course of 30 mg conjugated estrogen/day is an acceptable, effective and safe method of post-ovulatory interception.
