Striatal dopaminergic mechanisms and the specific activity of antidepressants

A comparison of data from the literature and authors' own data made it possible to formulate an outlook on the origin of the specific activity of antidepressants. This outlook combines neurochemical and chronobiological approaches. The effect of the substances is based on the intensification of the nigrostriatal dopaminergic transmission with a subsequent decrease in the hyperactivity of the striate body and elimination of the chronobiological defect of desynchronization leading to depression.
