Exposure of monkeys to atmosphere contaminated with lead chlorobromide alone or in combination with NO2, CO, or SO2 resulted in increases in blood lead conc. and urinary delta-amino levulinic acid and coproporphyrin conc. The erythrocyte osmotic fragility was reduced. The kidneys showed dilatation and epithelial cell degeneration in the proximal convoluted tubules, with vacuolated cytoplasm, vesiculated nuclei, presence of intranuclear inclusions, and disrupted borders. Rats exposed similarly also developed these changes except that the renal lesions were less pronounced.
