Interferon concentration was studied in the blood plasma of 6 healthy donors and 10 multiple sclerosis patients, as was the in vitro effect of 1-hour-long treatment of mononuclear cells with autologous plasma on their natural killer activity against tritiated human erythromyeloleukemia K-562 cells. It was shown that 2.3 +- 0.82 IU/ml of interferon circulated in blood serum of healthy donors. Interferon concentration in the serum of multiple sclerosis patients was elevated (5.2 +- 0.8 IU/ml). Autologous plasma does not affect natural killer activity in healthy donors in vitro while cytogenicity increases by 35-64% in multiple sclerosis patients as a result of preliminary incubation of mononuclear cells with autologous plasma.
