Metabolites of Pseudevernia furfuracea (L.) Zopf. and their inhibition potential of proteolytic enzymes

Atranorin, physodic acid, oxyphysodic acid and virensic acid were isolated from the lichen species P. furfuracea [P. furfuraceum], collected in West Tatra (Slovakia). Using HPLC analyses, their concentrations in the dried plant were found to range from 0.11 to 0.19%, 1.46 to 3.78%, 1.69 to 3.44% and 1.14 to 1.46, respectively. Atranorin was the strongest inhibitor of trypsin and porcine pancreatic elastase.
