So that the reform of the agricultural sector in Thailand will aim at the right aspects and prescribe appropriate remedies, the extent and severity of the focal problems of the Thai farming sector are reviewed. Landlessness is widespread, and tenancy at a high level. Indebtedness is a related problem. Other identifiable problem questions are diminishing farm size, deforestation, lack of adequate irrigation, insufficient and improper use of fertilizers and insecticides.
