Frequent and severe outbreaks of parasitic and infectious diseases have been recorded at the the Sulinskoe fish farm, Ukrainian SSR, ever since it became operational in 1963. A study in 1974 and 1975 revealed 7 protozoan and 8 helminth parasites in juvenile fish. This unsatisfactory situation is attributed to intrinsic faults in the design of this huge farm with a surface of 1322 ha. The author states that only reconstruction would permit the introduction of truly effective control measures and lists the palliative measures which can be used meanwhile.
