Utilization of health services by high risk children under five in a slum area

A cross-sectional study was carried out to estimate the proportion of 'high risk' children under five in a slum area of Pune [India]. The magnitude of the problem was considerable, the prevalence rate being 51.7 per cent. An attempt was also made to determine the extent of utilisation of available health facilities by this group, which was found to be 56.8 per cent. The association between utilisation of those facilities and various social factors like awareness, type of family, educational and occupational status of parents, socio-economic class etc. have been discussed.
