Conglutinin levels in dairy cattle: seasonal fluctuations

Serum levels of conglutinating activity were determined at one-week intervals in a dairy herd (approximately 40 cows) over a period of more than three years. Mean titres of conglutinin showed yearly fluctuations with the low point in April, May and early June and the peak in October, November and early December. The difference in mean conglutinin titres between low point and peak was greater than fourfold. Besides the main biphasic pattern, minor variations were observed, and at least some of these were the effect of calving. Evidence indicates that good nutritional conditions increased the level of conglutinin in the serum.
