Athletes differ from non-athletes in their nutritional requirements. True estimation of nutritional needs in athletes requires knowledge of the athlete's body-fat composition and daily energy expenditure. A balanced diet for athletes consists of 60% energy from carbohydrates, 15% from protein and 25% from fat. Adequate intake of minerals and fluids are also required.
